The species selected by the GIE GRASS
account for a total of 32,000 plots worked per year, 4,100
of them for tall fescue, 7,100 for lucerne, 9,600 for orchardgrass
and 11,200 for perennial ryegrass.
Research hosted at JD’s "La
Litière" station revolves around three focal points,
all leading to variety creation and selection programmes. Experimentation,
testing and behavioural observations are performed on the many
different sites across France.
The GIE ProLupin works 6,500 plots every year, 3,900 of them
for winter lupine and 2,600 for spring lupine.
13,500 plots for research solely for JD, 2 100 for lawn
seed, 5,300 for phacelia and 6,100 for forage rye.
The pool of equipment owned by this ultramodern station is
perfectly adapted to the maintenance of the 50,000 micro-plots
worked annually by the three GIEs (Economic Interest Groups).
Twelve people, including four research engineers, work here
full time.
